EWB in Malawi – Water and Sanitation 2010
A weblog by Shehin Rahemtulla – University of Victoria Junior Fellow for Engineers without Borders

My first Blog

First I’d like to apologize in advance for I know that this blog will be slightly messy and always under construction.  I am learning alot about how to keep a webpage looking spiffy but you’ll have to bear with me!!

This is where you can keep posted about what I’ve been doing with Engineers without borders in Malawi.  Its a nice way to keep in touch with all those who are interested rather than facebook or mass emails.

This page is called “Umodzi” which means ‘togetherness’ or ‘unity’ in Chichewa, one of the main languages in Malawi.  I chose it to emphasize that we (black, white, brown, green) are all part of one world.  It is our duty to do what we can to help one another.  As Nelson Mandela put it:  “Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings”.

Thats all for now because I have to hit the books!  Thanks for reading and feel free to post anything.
